Samsung has unveiled their latest System-on-chip (SoC) this week, trumpeting the arrival of the Exynos 5250, a dual-core 2GHz chipset.  Expected to be used in high-end tablets, the Samsung chips go into mass production in the second quarter of 2012.  At that rate we might expect to see these in future Galaxy Tabs and other tablets in the second half of the year.  We’d love to see these arrive in smartphones down the road and it wouldn’t surprise us if it actually happens.

As compared to today’s processors, the dual-core Exynos 5250 features 4X graphics performance over current Cortex-A9-based Application Processors.  Additional details include supports for stereoscopic 3D displays and display resolutions of up to WQXGA (2560×1600).

With CES, MWC, and CTIA breathing down our necks we might be able to see concept devices show up over the next few months.

We learned of a new RSS reader for Android devices today which provides a clean, intuitive way of keeping up to date with news as it happens.  Called Unfold News Reader, it feels very much like the unofficial love child of Pulse and Read It Later.  Out of the box it comes with hundreds of pre-loaded feeds, sorted into eight categories however it’s a snap to add your own feeds.

We’re big fans of the way in which Unfold News Reader strips out the clutter and distraction when reading, providing text and accompanying images and not much else.  Additionally we were impressed with the ease in which we could adjust text size and share articles via email, Twitter, and Facebook.

Unfold News Reader is available in the Android Market for $2.99 however the developers offer a trial version, of sorts.  You can download the free Unfold Technology News which comes with a handful of news sources.  It should be enough to give you a glimpse into how things look and work.  Also keep an eye out for a Kindle Fire version in the Amazon Appstore and the NOOK Tablet as well!

  • Feed Your Mind: Rather then spending hours searching for your favorite news sources, Unfold does the work for you. The App comes preloaded with hundreds of your favorite feeds, already categorized. Mix, match and move feeds in any order, even build your own “Everything” category customized for you.
  • Give Your Eyes a Rest: The simple beauty of Unfold is its ability to convert so many RSS Feeds into simple resizable text and images. Give your eyes a rest by reading in text mode, gaining the ability to increase text to a comfortable size. Or if a graphic view is preferred, switch to web mode and surf away.
  • Simply Social: With Unfold, sharing interesting news is fast and simple. With integration for email, Twitter, and Facebook, sharing has never been so easy. Don’t have time to read it now? Use the built in Favorites feature to save articles you want to read later.
  • What Learning Curve?: Learning to navigate Unfold is fun and easy. In fact, we’ve built a tutorial right into the settings menu. You’ll also find ways to link to your social accounts for faster updates, rate Unfold in the Android Marketplace, and stay updated on new features.

This might be helpful to any Verizon Xoom owners out there. It appears that Big Red has released a minor software update for their Honeycomb tablet, and much to our disdain, it’s not a surprise Ice Cream Sandwich release. Nevertheless, the update is essentially aimed at users that want to use the Xoom on a pay-as-you-go plan. So if you’re someone that only wants to use Vzw’s 4G LTE here and there, today is your lucky day.

As the update itself is only 8.9MB, it shouldn’t take long to install. It’ll be rolling out OTA over the next few weeks, so keep checking your Xoom for that update notification.

So, is anyone excited about the update? Who’s planning to pick up a 4G LTE Xoom for the holidays? Drop a comment below!

Lenovo is up to something lately. First they announced a few new Android tablets rocking Honeycomb, and now this. This little beauty was just spotted, and it’s being dubbed the LePhone K2. Rocking a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 processor, 1GB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, a 4.3-inch IPS display, and 8MP camera with 1080p video capture, it’s sure to raise a few eyebrows. The only damper that we can find is that the device runs on Gingerbread (2.3.5, to be exact). Of course, there’s no word on a release date, so Lenovo could very well slap Ice Cream Sandwich on this bad boy before launch. We’ll try to find out some more on this device.

In the meantime, the gallery below should satisfy you for awhile.
